Charity Wing-Walking Event

Wednesday 4th June 2014 was the Charity Wing-walking, Fly-in & Air Display at Earls Colne Airfield. After a soggy start and change of plans the day before with re-position of aircraft (thanks to the Great British weather!) the day was a roaring success and managed to raise £7000 for the Essex Air Ambulance.

The famous Breitling Wing-Walkers Danielle & Lydia, with their pilots Dave & Martyn performed an amazing display, complete with a smoke system that provided perfect IMC conditions on the airfield! They made formation flying look easy with their well-practiced manoeuvres including ‘The Mirror Formation’ and the breath-taking ‘Break’ to finish. Meanwhile the wing-walkers performed a spectacular sequence of acrobatic manoeuvres and handstands whilst strapped to the top wings of the team’s beautiful Boeing Stearman biplanes.

Nigel & the fabulous Yak 52 followed with a stunning display of aerobatic prowess demonstrating what the Yak is capable of from precise competition manoeuvres through to rolls / loops and finally the crazy Russian gyroscopic moves like the Lomcevak!! Both displays were accompanied by specialised commentary from Debs, who gave background information on the pilots, wing-walkers and aircraft, as well as the display and manoeuvres being performed. This even included a chat with Nigel over the radio in the middle of a Lomcevak! Unfortunately due to bad weather at Bentwaters the 3rd act, The Trig Team were unable to get airborne to fly their slot but Nicky was able to get the Air Ambulance up to delight her loyal supporters.

Ground events included the popular Air Ambulance stall where merchandise is sold to help support the work; Hog Roast & wine; Norms Finest Fare and the opportunity to photograph the aircraft up close on the ground. A Fly-in was also organised but due to the weather we only had 2 brave souls who managed to beat the weather and attend. After the display the weather did improve (typical!) and the Helicopter Flights and sponsored Wing-walking Flights were able to go-ahead much to the delight of the participants (we think it was delight!!!!).

The day was organised and sponsored by Zoe Napier Country & Equestrian. Anglian Flight Centres would personally like to thank the following people for their sterling work in making the day the success it was:
