Several successes over the last few weeks with first solo flights and skills tests passed. Congratulations to Ron for passing his skills test, and to Nathan and Ron who both had their first solo flight. We are looking forward to seeing what the Summer brings and helping our students enjoy aviation to the fullest.
This month we have had lots going on at Earls Colne Airfield! Some of you were lucky enough to enjoy a flight in the ME108. The Flying Reporter hosted his first supporters’ fly in and we have finally got some weather to be excited about! If you’d like a more detailed update each month, sign […]
We recently caught up again with Steven following our interview with him a year ago when he was just starting his PPL journey – how time flies! How far into your flight training journey are you now? Currently I am learning the circuit. The thrill of coming into land knowing that I have full control […]
We recently interviewed Mick Manders who was the business owner of Earls Colne airfield from the 1980s until 2017. It got us looking back at some old photos from when the airfield first began. Head over to our social media to watch the video of Mick! Instagram Facebook
We caught up with Rafferty, who recently passed his skills test with us! How did you get into flying? I’ve always wanted to be a pilot ever since I was a little boy. Growing up, my mum was an air stewardess for Virgin Atlantic. I spent a lot of time on aircraft going to loads […]
We had a fantastic pizza evening last week hosted by Nigel & Debs, on the topic of ‘understanding the weather for flight planning’. Thank you to everyone who attended!

Ella has just started her flying journey with us (at the age of 14!) and has completed 3 hours training so far. What made you want to get your PPL? It would be great to fly with my Dad and I like the freedom of being able to fly where I want to. Is […]
We have been experiencing some very cold weather at the airfield, with snow and ice preventing us from doing much flying! Whilst this has made for some lovely views, we are very much looking forward to resuming lessons as normal when the runway is clear. As you can see, Kevin is not too happy about […]
How did you first get into aviation? My first experience in aviation was when I joined the local air cadet squadron at the age of 12. At the start we learned a lot about flying and were introduced to the idea that you can actually become a pilot and fly planes yourself and after that […]
Dean Warriner, who recently gained his PPL with us, left this fantastic review: “I visited 2 other schools before deciding Earls Colne was the best place to teach me how to fly. With my first flight in April 22 and my PPL being awarded in July they have been nothing short of superb. A hugely […]
Some top tips from our Head of Training, Nigel, to help you become an even better pilot! Spend time planning on the ground – never rush into the air. Regrets are more expensive in all respects if already airborne! You’ll never make a nice landing off a bad approach; if it’s going pear-shaped on the […]
A lovely review from one of our recent students, Oliver. “I began my PPL journey in April 2021 as it had always been a dream of mine to learn to fly. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and the challenge and purpose it provided me. My fondest memory from my training was my first […]
A huge thank you to our fantastic Operations Manager, Victoria, who has worked at Earls Colne Airfield for 25 years! She started off as a volunteer (not knowing anything about aviation!) but soon became a very important part of the team. Some of Vic’s highlights include watching people come through the door, take their first […]
We caught up with one of our student pilots, Matthew Pike, who recently completed his first solo flight. 1. Tell us a bit about how / why you got into aviation. I first had a trial lesson gifted to me for my 14th birthday by my parents. After about an hour and a half of […]
